    I think the reader understands the difference between the identically spelled words and will place the stress correctly. Putin and his inner circle are so afraid and threatened by Navalny, the whistleblower who exposed their corruption, that they decided to get rid of him the same way they got rid of Litvinenko and Nemtsov. But it was a misfire. The fact is that Litvinenko and Nemtsov were killed using proven, reliable methods back in the USSR. The use of the new poison "Novichok," however, proved unsuccessful in two cases—both the Skripals and Navalny survived, thanks to Western doctors. It seems Putin's cloak-and-dagger warriors will continue to operate the old-fashioned way. Moreover, the need for a full-time, usually chatty, laundress will disappear:
