Alik Bakhshi
To the last will of Taras Shevchenko
When I die, bury me
In dear Ukraine,
Amidst the vast steppe
Dig a grave,
So that I may lie on a burial mound,
Above the mighty river,
So that I may hear the raging
Old Dnieper beneath the steep bank.
And when from the fields of Ukraine
The blood of hateful enemies
Shall it carry...then I
Will rise from the grave—
I will rise and reach
God's threshold,
I will pray...But for now
I do not know God.
Bury me and rise,
Break the chains,
Sprinkle my will with the evil blood of the enemy
Taras Shevchenko
Today, the people of Ukraine are close to fulfilling the famous last will of the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko.(1) Putin's plans to capture Kyiv in two or three days have failed. Encountering the courageous resistance of the Ukrainian people, the Russian army, abandoning burned-out tanks and the corpses of rapist and marauding soldiers on the outskirts of Kyiv, turned to shameful flight, allowing the spring waters of the mighty Dnieper to wash away from the fields of Ukraine the "blood of hateful enemies" who had come to take the land from a people who, according to the definition of the fascist Nazi Putin, do not even exist. Unable to defeat the Ukrainian army in battle, the Russian invaders began to exterminate the civilian population not only in the occupied territory but also in the deep rear, shelling major cities with missiles, hoping to sow panic and divide society. However, this action by the Russian army had the exact opposite effect. The Ukrainian people rallied against the aggressor in a fight for their future, realizing it was under threat.
By and large, Ukraine is also fighting for the future of Europe. It's just a shame that not all of its politicians understand how dangerous Putin's Russia is for them. They try to court Putin and, despite his brazen behavior in international politics, have not given up hope of success in negotiations with a liar and murderer. France has been particularly notable in this regard. This prostitute of Europe had previously found common ground with Hitler (the Vichy government). Its constant hesitation is well known. For example, in 1966, France decided to partially withdraw from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and only rejoined it as a full member in 2009. While Great Britain immediately sided with Ukraine, supplying it with lethal weapons, President Macron is in no hurry to assist in the fight against the new Hitler in the person of Putin (2). One cannot help but recall Macron's 2019 remarks about reconsidering his stance on Russia, which, in his view, is no longer an enemy of NATO, and this was after Russia had seized Crimea and Donbas from Ukraine. Fortunately, Macron's remarks about "NATO's brain death" were met with condemnation from the other members of the alliance. Only the Baltic states and Poland, whose peoples were previously subjected to violence by Russians, understand the real danger Putin and his Russia pose to the world. (3)
Putin started the war with Ukraine for two main reasons. The first was to restore the empire to its former borders. The second was to prevent the Ukrainian people from overtaking the Russian people in achieving prosperity, something a priori unattainable for Russians and which could fuel discontent with Putin's rule in Russia.
The Ukrainian people have been given the difficult and responsible mission of stopping the aggressor from realizing its plans of conquest. If successful, Russia as an empire will cease to exist, and dozens of nations will gain long-awaited freedom.
