Putin on Russia's national interests

as the cause of Russophobia

                                                 

    Putin has once again accused the West of Russophobia and infringing on Russia's legitimate interests (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w25jC6CIosk) in response to sanctions imposed by democratic countries to curb Russia's encroachments on the established world order. So what constitutes Russia's legitimate interests? If we look at the facts, Russia under Putin unleashed a war in Chechnya, bringing it back into the imperial fold, and unleashed wars in Georgia and Ukraine, seizing part of their territory. Furthermore, Putin deplores the collapse of the Soviet Union, calling the liberation of many peoples the greatest geopolitical catastrophe, and the military actions of Putin's Russia indicate its attempt to restore the Russian Empire within its former borders. 

   Thus, Russia's national interests, which Putin cares about and which constitute its legitimate rights, amount to nothing less than revanchism (1, 2, 3), that is, the infringement of the freedom rights of other peoples. As soon as Putin found himself in the Kremlin, I intuitively understood what kind of person he was. In many articles, I have spoken of the danger this man poses to the world, comparing Putin to Hitler (4, 5, 6). Unfortunately, a failure to understand the essence, namely the mentality of the Russian people with their great-power worldview (7), which Putin relies on, could lead to the realization of Putin's revanchist goals. 

   The softness of European politicians, and American ones as well, especially President Obama, not to mention Bush Jr., who called Putin a friend and condescendingly treated Russia's revanchist aspirations, has led to the current political escalation, which is even more dangerous than during the Cold War. I am amazed how Putin and his representatives on the UN Security Council get away with such brazen, even boorish, behavior in their dialogue with the West. It's time to isolate Russia, like a resurrected monster from the age of lizards, from the civilized world before it's too late. Incidentally, today, given historical evidence, Russia appears to be the most aggressive country (8), and Putin essentially changes nothing in its image.
