Lies are Russia's main bond

After the collapse of Communism, Russia has been in a painful search for a national idea. Imitating Western democracy, as it turns out, is unacceptable for Russia. Democracy is the power of the people, and where the people, due to their mentality, are unable or refuse to actively participate in rational production and political life and delegate this responsibility to the leader, democracy is fundamentally impossible. This is precisely what we are seeing in Russia. The values of democracy have turned into disaster for the Russian people (1, 2).

In Russia, there is another value – lies (3). Putin, realizing that the democracy of the Russian Empire is contraindicated, coined a new definition of the social system in the country, calling it sovereign democracy, that is, democracy for the sovereign (4). While democratic countries lack a distinct national idea – the common national idea for all of them is the desire for a prosperous life – Russia needs a national idea to justify its aggressive nature (5). Ultimately, Russia is an empire, and the Russian people, or, as they say today, the people who form the state, are characterized by an imperial worldview with all the ensuing consequences. Having suffered a fiasco with the idea of Communism, Russia, consciously or rather unconsciously, began frantically searching for a national idea, not realizing that the lies that abound in the country and are its calling card are in fact Russia's national idea. Führer Putin loves to appeal to Russia's bonds, and Lies are the main bond that binds the Russian people together. They rally around this bond, protecting it from the Truth, which the majority understands perfectly well, but the imperial worldview and Great Russian chauvinism (6) prevent this Truth from being accepted.

In full accordance with the above, Putin, in justifying the annexation of Crimea, claimed that Chersonesus is yet another spiritual bond of the Russian people, citing the fact that Prince Vladimir of Kyiv visited this city, then part of the Byzantine Empire, and was baptized there. Yes, it is a historical fact that Prince Vladimir did indeed arrive in Chersonesus with his retinue to marry the sister of the Byzantine Emperor Basil II, who had been sent to him as a wife, on the condition that he convert to Orthodoxy. However, the fact that Vladimir was baptized in Chersonesus is absent. It is a well-known fact that the baptism of Rus' took place in Kyiv on the Dnieper River. But even if we accept that Vladimir took Chersonesus by force and was baptized in order to marry, this cannot be considered a bond of the Russian people. Then, based on Führer Putin's historical knowledge, firstly, Tatars can also consider Kyiv or Moscow, for example, as their tie, and secondly, Prince Vladimir was not Russian by nationality. Incidentally, Muscovy as a state didn't even exist in those distant times. There was Kievan Rus', a state created by Norwegian Varangians from the Rurik dynasty, a tribe of Russes. In those distant times, Rus' consisted of princes with their retinues, composed of Varangians, and subjects—serfs. "Whose serf are you? I am Russian." Hence the nationality "Russian" as an adjective; unlike for all other peoples, nationality is a noun. And if we take a strict approach to the fact of Baptism, then, which is especially important in this case, it is more of a tie for the Ukrainian people, but not for the Russian people in the modern sense.
