Putin and Russia's Sporting Achievements

Tank Biathlon

As is well known, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi was Russia's last. Putin's attempt to secure Russia's victory at any cost, using a carefully orchestrated plan to swap athletes' urine with doping, ended disastrously. Russia was banned from all Olympics and other international competitions. Putin, one might say, has completely destroyed sport in Russia. Without competition, there is no sport. It's pointless to talk about sporting achievements without participation in competitions. This is what happened in Russia. Putin, pursuing his political goals, decided to reinforce his victory with sporting achievements, interpreting the Olympic victory as the national superiority of the Russian people, defined by the infamous word "Nazism." Incidentally, Russian Nazism is not much different from German Nazism. (1) Thus, Hitler's propaganda explained the Germans' athletic success at the 1936 Olympics as a dominant superiority over other nations, and not just in sports. However, it should be noted that the Germans won the Berlin Olympics fairly, while the Russians achieved a medal through sheer deception, and even then, they finished behind Norway. I foresaw Putin's intention to attack Ukraine after his planned Olympic victory in an article written four months before the annexation of Crimea:

"One thing is clear: Russia will not invade Ukraine before the Sochi Winter Olympics, lest it repeat the failed 1980 Moscow Olympics. Therefore, the Ukrainians must hurry to join the EU before the end of the Sochi Olympics." (2)

The international sporting festival – the World Cup – has begun. Russia is not participating in this celebration. Putin has made his country a pariah. The country has been banished from all international competitions due to the shameful urine-swapping scheme. The only competition Putin has organized instead of sports is the tank biathlon.

The following is a series of articles dedicated to Russia's sporting achievements under Putin.

Tank Biathlon Instead of the Olympics

Due to Russia's shameful exclusion from the Olympics (1, 2), the Kremlin has devised another form of international competition – a military one. From now on, Russians compete in the art of killing. So, instead of Olympic competitions, Russia holds annual world tank competitions, the number of which is off the charts in the country, the so-called "Tank Biathlon." This competition is about who can best use military equipment – tanks, planes, and missiles to kill people. Not a day goes by without the idiot box showing something about military service or the development of cutting-edge military technology that leaves Western competitors far behind.

It seems that Russia produces nothing to improve people's lives, except weapons of murder. While in America, peaceful private companies are successfully launching rockets into space, planning to take tourists to the Moon and Mars, in Russia they're still using space technology from the last century. They don't even dream of reaching the Moon anymore. Meanwhile, militarization and war propaganda are rampant, reminiscent of pre-war Nazi Germany. It's noteworthy that Russia is already preparing young children as cannon fodder for war, dressing them in soldiers' uniforms.

Mutko's Urine as a Symbol of Russian Sport

On December 31, 2018, the ultimatum issued by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council to ensure access to samples from the Moscow anti-doping laboratory expired, after which Russian athletes will be barred from participating in international competitions. This circumstance clearly points to the state's culpability, represented by then-Minister of Sport Mutko, in the mass doping of Russian athletes with banned substances, which they used to achieve record-breaking results. Moreover, it was discovered that state agencies, including the FSB, were involved in swapping urine samples to conceal the violations. Henceforth, samples containing Mutko's swapped urine are a national treasure and a hallmark of Russian sport. Mutko's urine is a symbol of Russia's sporting achievements.

Naturally, without instructions from Putin, who, like Nazi Hitler (1), uses sport for propaganda purposes, Minister Mutko would not have dared to force athletes to use doping. It's also absolutely clear that Putin cannot allow international experts to test the samples stored in the laboratory, otherwise he will face shame. Furthermore, the ultimatum also includes a clause mandating punishment for those responsible for a crime that, by all laws, is nothing less than criminal, which is unacceptable to Putin (2). After all, if the case goes to court, there's no guarantee that Mutko won't crack. That's why, despite Russia's phenomenal achievements at the Sochi Olympics, Putin stripped Mutko of his ministerial post and stripped Russian athletes of their right to participate in international competitions.

The Russian Empire has no place at the Olympics.

The Russian Empire was banned from the 2018 Winter Olympics due to doping administered to Russian athletes at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, at Putin's instigation. Their success was intended to boost Russia's international prestige, which had declined with the collapse of the USSR. According to Putin's plan, victory at the Sochi Olympics was supposed to secure his popularity as a caring leader worthy of the people's love and respect. Yes, Putin needed popular support before his planned return of Ukraine to the imperial fold, with the help of his protégé Yanukovych. Incidentally, I warned about this strategic goal of Putin's long before the insidious attack on Ukraine began (1, 2). True, not everything went smoothly: due to the Maidan, the traitor Yanukovych was forced to flee, and instead of all of Ukraine, Putin was left with only Crimea and Donbas. Ukrainian patriots managed to suppress the rebellion in Kharkiv and Odesa. Of course, the Russian people, known for their imperial worldview, favor President Putin, ignoring the fact that lies and evil, which have already become Putin's calling card, are punishable. Everything has a price; that's just the way the world works.

And today, Russian athletes are paying the price for deceiving their beloved president. The WADA Committee recommended that the organization's Executive Committee ban Russia from international sporting competitions for four years. The fact is that Russia failed to comply with all the requirements regarding providing data from the Moscow anti-doping laboratory to experts, and the data that was provided turned out to be altered, which was naturally noticed. As a result, as expected, the very status of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) was put at risk. In short, until Russia acknowledges the McLaren report, Russian athletes will not be able to participate in international competitions. In an interview with the BBC, RUSADA head Yuri Ganus unequivocally blamed the authorities for the current situation, saying he knew who was specifically behind the sample swapping. Furthermore, he made it clear he feared for his own life, citing the sudden, simultaneous deaths of perfectly healthy RUSADA officials Sinev and Kamaev, who knew about Putin's interference in sports. (https://www.bbc.com/russian/features-50525144)

In short, until Russia acknowledges the McLaren report, Russian athletes cannot participate in international competitions. Putin understands perfectly well that admitting to sample manipulation is tantamount to admitting to a criminal offense committed by himself, because in Russia, no one would dare commit such a large-scale crime without Putin's knowledge. Minister Mutko and the FSB agents involved in the sample swapping are merely executing the will of the President of All Rus'. (3,4)

Russia should be excluded from international sporting competitions altogether, as an empire that suppresses the sovereign right of other peoples within the empire, except for the Russians, to compete under their national flags. For example, in the United Kingdom, the Scots and Welsh compete in the World Cup alongside the English, each under their own national flag.

Russia's International Shame

It has happened! Justice has finally prevailed. Putin and his Russia have received what they deserved. No country has ever suffered such global shame. The criminal interference in sports by St. Petersburg gangster Putin (1,2) could not go unpunished. For the mass doping of athletes, carried out at the direction of President Putin, and the state's cover-up of criminal manipulation of doping samples, Russia has been suspended from all international sporting competitions for four years. Furthermore, all state officials in charge of sport are banned from attending sporting events. In short, the World Anti-Doping Agency has ruled to isolate Russia for violating sporting regulations and for deceiving Russia as a state. True, Russia had a chance to avoid punishment and spare the fate of its athletes, but only if it admitted guilt. However, this, for obvious reasons, was unavoidable, as Putin's criminal role would inevitably be revealed. In a totalitarian state like Russia, nothing can happen without Putin's knowledge. It is difficult to imagine that Minister Mutko, especially with the involvement of the FSB, could disobey orders from above.

There's only one conclusion to be drawn here: Putin's Russia is a criminal state. Russia's uncovered crimes in sports are just the beginning of a series of more serious crimes, and I wouldn't be surprised if Putin shares Milosevic's fate. It's worth noting that the vast majority of Russians admire how their president, using the laws of Western democracy, brazenly lies, denying his crimes, even though, for example, it's clear without any investigation who shot down the Malaysian Boeing. The Russian people are simply delighted by the blatant lies of the "they-are-not-there," or how the Kremlin maniac gets rid of people undesirable to the regime in such a way that the West is powerless to prove anything. Putin has revived the imperial worldview and Great Russian chauvinism inherent in the Russian people, who had been lost after the collapse of the USSR (3). For Putin's unspoken goal of restoring the empire within the borders of the USSR, the Russian people are willing to endure any hardship, especially exclusion from competitions, even though it's clear that the Russian people are the most...

I am certain that Putin is using WADA's decision to fuel anti-Western sentiment among the people and support them in their fight against the enemy encroaching on Russia's sovereignty.

Russia is a prehistoric lizard that has survived to this day, and it has no place in the modern world. Ronald Reagan rightly called Russia the Evil Empire, but today Russia can also be called the Empire of Lies (4). Putin has clearly demonstrated that evil and lies go hand in hand.

The Russian Empire in the Olympic Results or Sports and Politics

The well-known slogan "sports outside of politics" is true, but not in all cases. In countries with totalitarian regimes, where no public organization, including sports organizations, can function without the participation of the state, this slogan not only fails to work, but, as has been revealed in Russia, it is used to cover up criminal cases initiated by the government itself. Today, the real state of sports in Russia is reflected in the slogan "victory at any cost." And that price has proven high. Due to the use of doping imposed by the highest sports authorities, under the patronage of the FSB, some athletes lost the right to participate in the 2016 Olympics. It is difficult to imagine that Sports Minister Mutko was unaware of the ongoing top-secret operation, for which his department served as a cover. Otherwise, why would the state need it at all?

Sports Minister Mutko

The Ministry of Sports is the conductor of state policy in the sports community. Incidentally, only Russia has a Ministry of Sports; in other countries, at best, a ministry of education or culture has a sports department. I'd like to point out that the doping scandal that erupted just before the Olympics is only just beginning, and its consequences are likely yet to come. In totalitarian Russia, no government official would dare take a single step without Putin's knowledge, so it's entirely logical to assume that athletes were doped on the eve of the 2014 Winter Olympics under President Putin's direct orders. Putin needed to bolster his prestige ahead of Russia's planned military invasion of Ukraine.

I'd like to boast: back in 2005, I foresaw Russia's aggression against Georgia and Ukraine in my article "The Terrible Price of Protecting the Rose Revolutions" (1), and in my 2006 article "Whose Crimea Is It?" (2), I directly pointed to Russia's inevitable seizure of Crimea. A year before Russia's attack on Ukraine, in my article "Ukraine – a Victim of the West's Immorality Towards Russia" (3), I wrote:

By exploiting the reluctance of Ukraine's large Russian population to live in democracy and separatist sentiments, Putin, under the pretext of protecting their rights, could send troops and split Ukraine, presenting the West with a fait accompli. The main question is how willing the West will be to swallow this bitter pill. Of course, a war won't break out over Ukraine, Putin understands this perfectly well, but what actions, most likely economic in nature, will follow, and are they really so terrifying for Russia? Will the West demonstrate principledness or surrender Ukraine, as it surrendered Chechnya, allowing Putin to brutally persecute the Chechen people? Or will it continue to purchase Russian energy resources, opting for a purely pragmatic approach, ignoring Sakharov's justified words that the most pragmatic approach is a moral one. One thing is clear: Russia will not invade Ukraine before the Sochi Winter Olympics, lest it repeat the failed 1980 Moscow Olympics. Therefore, Ukrainians must hurry to join the EU before the Sochi Olympics.

The fact that Russia attacked Ukraine after the Sochi Olympics, and not before, already points to a direct connection between politics and sports in Russia. Previously, due to Russia's backward policies, it was kicked out of the G8. Now it's the athletes' turn. The involvement of Russian athletes in Putin's political ambitions has resulted in personal tragedy for each of them. By banning all Russian track and field athletes from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Russia has been shown where it belongs. It seems Russia will soon have no place in polite society at all.

Now I want to focus on the broader impact of the political situation in the Russian Empire on sports in general.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has never won a Summer Olympics. Moreover, in the last two Olympics, Russia has not finished higher than fourth. The main reason is that a large number of medals were won by the nations of the former Soviet Union, which, with the collapse of the USSR, gained the opportunity to independently participate in international sporting competitions.

Thanks to international sporting competitions, the world learned about the existence of Kazakhs, Turkmens, Tajiks, Georgians, Azerbaijanis, and other peoples, whose athletes were considered Russian abroad during the Soviet era. Even today, athletes from nations that have not yet achieved independence are considered Russian at the Olympics. If the remaining peoples of the Russian Empire—Tatars, Chechens, Kabardians, Dagestanis, and others—achieved independence, then I fear the Russian Empire would not be among the top ten countries at the Olympics.

In the end, I want to say that it's good that after the collapse of the USSR, the peoples of the former Soviet republics gained freedom; otherwise, they wouldn't be participating in international competitions today.
